Beyond the Walls Mobile App Wins Third Place in 2015 Interpretive Media Award Competition

VMFA is pleased to announce that our Beyond the Walls Mobile App has been awarded third place in the National Association for Interpretation’s 2015 Interpretive Media Award Competition, Digital Media category.

The Beyond the Walls app and interactive website was designed to make Chinese art and culture accessible to the public and to feature objects in VMFA’s East Asian collection. Users can explore content virtually through activities such as writing calligraphy, designing seals, and playing music. More than fifty works of art from the VMFA collection are highlighted, as well as objects from other institutions.

This major project was spearheaded by Lulan Yu, Education Programs Manager, in close conjunction with Li Jian, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Curator of East Asian Art, and with the support of J. Barry Matthews and RTS Labs as well as many other amazing staff members. Please join us in congratulating them!

If you haven’t explored the app yet, check it out! You can also access the interactive activities on our website.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of VMFA Education!
