Unraveling the Monju Scroll

The Monju Scroll, or as it’s properly known, Monju (Bodbisattva Manjursi) Crossing the Sea, was created during the 14th century towards  the end of the Kamakura period. Monju, the deity pictured, is a Bodhisattva; someone who postpones their entrance into Nirvana to help relieve some of the suffering of others.
