Foundation Accountant (Full-time, Non-exempt)

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Foundation (VMFAF) is seeking a full-time Foundation Accountant. This position requires accuracy, excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to relate well with other people, and a willingness to learn and be inquisitive.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in non-profit Fund Accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience or training
  • Knowledgeable on GAAP, especially as it applies to non-profit fund accounting
  • Proficiency in financial analysis
  • Ability to research and resolve financial issues
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and reconciliation of a variety of financial data
  • Ability to prepare well written documentation to support findings
  • Ability to act in a professional and confidential manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and Google suite
  • Proficiency with fund accounting software plus Blackbaud’s Financial Edge
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organizational skills while managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to proactively adjust priorities as needs arise
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent written and oral skills

Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Process vendor payments
    • Ensure vendor requests have appropriate approvals and backup prior to processing
    • Enter vendor payments in general ledger
    • Prepare purchase orders as necessary
    • Prepare 1099 Miscellaneous Forms at year end
    • Maintain accurate contract files
    • Distribute vendor checks
  • Gift Processing
    • Process interface of contributions from Raiser’s Edge to Financial Edge
    • Verify transactions and backup match in accordance with donor’s designation
    • Prepare bill to Museum for split gifts monthly
    • Ensure accuracy of stock gift transactions
  • Payroll processing
    • Ensure proper allocation to budget and personnel lines
    • Prepare journal entry for review by Supervisor
  • Assist in audit and tax return preparation
    • Provide information as requested regarding contributions and expenditures
    • Prepare vacation leave calculation
    • Prepare functional expense calculation
  • Assist with Budget to Actual reporting quarterly
  • Reconcile liability and clearing accounts for review by Supervisor
    • Ensure travel and expense reports are received and allocated properly
    • Maintain professionalism when working with internal and external staff
  • Prepare sales tax return for Bed and Breakfast operations
  • Lead Workers’ Compensation annual audit and quarterly 401K reports for review by Director
  • Prepare journal entries and reports as requested
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Hiring Salary Range: 

$50,000 – $65,000 annually
