Security Associate (Wage, Non-exempt)

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) supports an inclusive and diverse employee community. Security Associate is an ideal position for people who enjoy working in a creative environment with strong community outreach. Security Associates support the museum’s public safety and property protection programs by staffing posts in our main building, on campus posts external to the main building as well as patrolling the galleries. Benefits include:

This entry-level position provides a flexible schedule of up to 28 hours per week (minimum 20 hours per week), with an annual maximum of 1,450 hours (May 1 – April 30).

Minimum Qualifications

An understanding of customer service principles, practices, and methods.

Ability to apply mature judgement to ensure safety of artwork and comfort of visitors.

Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written.

Ability to read and document incident information for reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to quickly learn and use various computer applications.

Additional Considerations

Prior experience in fine retail services, hospitality industry, or private security.

Special Instructions

Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check.

As Designated / Essential Staff, this position may be required to perform other duties related to security, safety and health as assigned (i.e. training).

As Designated / Essential Staff, this position may be required to assist the museum or state government during inclement weather or in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor or the Director of the Museum.
