Mid to Late 20th-Century Art

One of the best postwar collections in a comprehensive museum in the United States, featuring iconic works by artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, and Anselm Kiefer. Sydney and Frances Lewis’s gift of some 250 works in 1985 established the collection’s core strength: American painting and sculpture from the mid-1950s to early 1980s, with a nucleus of early 1980s European art.
