Virtual Conversation | Storied Strings and the Sense of Sight

On December 8, 2023, nationally acclaimed scholar Georgina Kleege, author of More than Meets the Eye: What Blindness Brings to Art, visited VMFA for a conversation related to the special exhibition Storied Strings: The Guitar in American Art.

Kleege shared her perspective and expertise with Dr. Leo Mazow and Sarah Rasich, the exhibition's curator and educator, respectively, and together they explored the benefits of descriptive audio and the visitor experience. Referencing the exhibition, they closely examined an artwork to consider the sensory experience of visually impaired persons, the intersection of perception and sound, and the guitar as an expressive tool.
