Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

June 15–28, 2023

We start our Ecuadorian journey in the remarkable city of Quito, where we will experience some of the many architectural and cultural sites the city has to offer, both colonial and indigenous. One highlight is our visit to the Middle of the World Monument at latitude 0° 00′ 00″, where we have the opportunity to straddle both hemispheres. As we continue our adventure in the colonial city of Cuenca in Ecuador’s highlands, we’ll visit local artisans whose creations include intricately woven textiles, musical instruments, leatherwork, traditional jewelry, Panama hats, and hand-made ornaments and pottery. We also explore one of the largest indigenous markets in Latin America, and tour a national park known for its myriad of lakes, lagoons, and waterfalls.

We’ll continue to experience the natural heritage and beauty of Ecuador through our exploration of the Galapagos Islands. Sailing by privately chartered yacht on day trips, we spend time with the native wildlife that call the Galapagos home, including giant Galapagos tortoises, blue-footed boobies, Darwin’s finches, and sea lions. In addition to seeing the many animal inhabitants of the islands, we will take in breathtaking views of natural rock and lava formations, pristine white sand beaches, and lush plant life. Then, with our adventure coming to a close, we return to Quito, where we soak up Ecuador’s stunning biodiversity with a visit to the Botanical Gardens. With lunch on our own at the Iñaquito Market, we have plenty of opportunity to fuel ourselves with wide selections of fruit, vegetables, meat, and seafood before our overnight return flights to U.S. in the evening.
