With one foot slightly in front of the other and a sinuous twist of the body, this statue appears to be in motion. Yet its strange features create a hauntingly supernatural sense, as if the statue is moving in some unknown, unearthly space. For their owners, such tall, thin figures served as oracles and guardian spirits.
