Antonia Minor (36 BC–AD 37) was the mother of Emperor Claudius, who issued this coin. She was also the daughter of Mark Antony and Octavia, Augustus’ sister. During the reign of Tiberius, she helped uncover a conspiracy against the emperor. Though her grandson, Emperor Gaius (Caligula) honored her at the beginning of his reign, he is said to have driven her to commit suicide.
