Red-Figured Cup (Primary Title)
attributed to, Euaion Painter, Greek, active ca. 475 – 450 BC (Artist)
The interior (tondo) of this vessel shows a woman pouring wine from a pitcher into a cup held by a seated man. The objects hanging above the man—an aryballos for holding oil and a strigil for scraping the skin—were used by athletes and, together with his chair, locate the scene in the interior of a building. An actual strigil and aryballos can be seen in the nearby display on ancient sport.
