Lithographer and designer Henri Privat-Livemont composed this poster for the Belgian distillery Robette’s intoxicating drink absinthe, which was a popular beverage at the turn of the century. The female figure offers up a glass of absinthe topped by a spoon holding a sugar cube, over which water was poured to mix with the alcohol. The poster’s green background alludes to the drink’s color, which was achieved by brewing wormwood, a plant that Privat-Livemont depicts in the decorative left border.
