The chrysanthemum is one of the “four gentlemen,” along with the orchid, bamboo and the plum blossom, of East Asian art, representative of the seasons and ideal Confucian virtues. Associated with autumn and the onset of winter, the chrysanthemum is celebrated for its resilience in the face of adverse conditions.
