Nursing Infant II (Translation)
Säugling II (Primary Title)
Conrad Felixmüller, German, 1897 - 1977 (Artist)
This image, dated 1918, was likely made shortly after Felixmüller’s oldest son, Luca, was born in November of that year. Just as he does with his image Birth, the artist offers viewers the close-up perspective of a new father observing the bodily connection between his wife and child. Here the simplified forms and bold lines of the woodcut technique accentuate the roundness of his wife’s breast and son’s cheeks and forehead. The repeating curves form a rhythmic unity between the two.
