Head of my Wife (Translation)
Kopf meiner Frau (Primary Title)
Conrad Felixmüller, German, 1897 - 1977 (Artist)
In 1918, at age twenty-one, Felixmüller married Londa von Berg, a baroness. Although their vastly different backgrounds—his working-class and hers aristocratic—made for an unlikely marriage, they lived together happily for almost sixty years until his death in 1977. She is an elegant and easily recognizable subject in many of his works; he typically elongated her neck and face in these depictions.
Signed and dated in graphite lower right: "Felixmüller 18."
Inscribed in graphite beneath image lower left: "3. Druck. Kaltnadelradierung". Inscribed in graphite beneath image lower center: "Kopf meiner Frau." Inscribed in graphite on verso lower left: "66/ (119)." Illegible graphite inscription on verso in center.
