Armrest with Landscape Scene (Translation)
竹刻留青山水楼阁臂搁 清中期 (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
Bamboo carving was a form of artistic expression favored by literati during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Decorated with a delicate landscape, this piece is an excellent example of liuqing, a bamboo-carving technique that was created by masters in Jinling, today’s Nanjing, in southern China. This technique involves carving the design into the skin of bamboo and then scraping out the uncarved area.
