Kakiemon ware is one of the earliest porcelains decorated with polychrome enamels. Unlike the dense design on Arita ware, the stylized motifs, such as the phoenix and dragons in roundels on this bowl are placed against a plain backdrop. This simplified style inspired potters of Dutch Delftware and German Meissen porcelain in the first half of the 18th century.
