Delmé, who lived his life as a country gentleman, was the eldest son of Sir Peter Delmé, a governor of the Bank of England and the Lord Mayor of London. He was also an art collector of note. This early painting of foxhunting shows the sport as a sociable, agreeable, and decorous pursuit.
