Thoroughbred Horse Walking (Primary Title)
Edgar Degas, French, 1834 - 1917 (Artist)
Though Degas was known as a painter, his dealer Paul Durand-Ruel once noted, “Whenever I called on Degas I was almost sure to find him modeling in clay as painting.” In fact, 150 wax sculptures were found in his studio upon his death—including The Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, the only sculpture he exhibited publicly. At the urging of his heirs and friends, these works were cast in a small edition in bronze soon afterwards.
Signed on bronze base: "Degas"
Founders mark on bronze base: "66/E"; on bottom, two labels: "A6255" and "83"; written in black: "A6255"
