VMFA opens its permanent early 20th-century European art galleries on May 4, showcasing French and German art from the first half of the 20th century. The galleries, also known as the Deane & Goodwin Galleries, are located on the Atrium level of the museum.

American artist Tom Wesselmann is one of the leading figures in the American Pop Art movement with a career spanning more than four decades. Opening April 6, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts offers the first comprehensive North American retrospective of Wesselmann’s work. VMFA is the only East Coast venue for this exhibition.

A signature installation of the Dale Chihuly exhibition begins October 5 and will feature an intricate, 3,000 pound glass chandelier visible from the museum’s main approach. Blue Ridge Chandelier will hang adjacent to the Tiffany Christ Resurrection Window. The fall exhibition, Chihuly at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, opens October 20.

Fine Arts & Flowers will return to the galleries of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Oct. 24-28. This fall’s exhibition will be the event’s 11th staging, combining painting, sculptures and other works of art in the museum’s permanent collection with unique interpretations in flowers and foliage.

A team from Dale Chihuly’s Seattle studio is in Richmond this week to install “Red Reeds,” a sculpture 60 feet in length, in VMFA’s reflecting pool. The internationally renowned artist created 200 red glass reeds as part of this fall’s exhibition, Chihuly at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, opening October 20.
