Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Returns Headdress to Native Tribe

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts returned a Kingfisher Fort Headdress (late 19th – early 20th century) to the Lúkaaxh.ádi clan of the Tlingit tribe of Alaska in March. This was the first repatriation of a Native American object by VMFA in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) of 1990.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to be Open 365 Days a Year

In keeping with its goal to be accessible to all visitors, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) announces plans to be open 365 days a year. In addition, VMFA is expanding its evening hours. Starting in July, the museum will be open until 9 p.m. on Fridays, in addition to Thursday evenings.

European Collection Fact Sheet

The European Art Department at VMFA comprises more than 10,000 objects in all media dating from the Early Middle Ages to the 20th Century, including paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and works on paper. It includes the Mellon Collections of British Sporting Art, French Art, American Sporting and Historical Art, and Jewelry and objects by Jean Schlumberger.
