Registration for VMFA Members

To accommodate the high demand, members-only registration for the following categories will begin as noted:

Studio School and Art History Classes (ages 16+)

Tue, Aug 6 | 8 am (online or by phone) or 10 am (in person)

Teen and All Children’s Classes

Wed, Aug 7 | 8 am (online or by phone) or 10 am (in person)

It’s dance night with jazz, swing, and blues by Elana Lisa & The Hot Mess! Lead vocalist Elana Lisa will be joined by Brandon Martin on lead guitar and vocals, Rusty Farmer on bass, Allen Burris on saxophone and flute, Dave Triplett on trumpet and flugelhorn, Russell Marsh on keys, and Ross Riddell on percussion.

Dominion Energy Jazz Café | Mike Hoggard with Harry Wilson on Vibraphone

Jazz Café welcomes back drummer Mike Hoggard with former Sun Ra Arkestra vibraphonist Harry Wilson! The band has been performing at venues and festivals in Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, RVA, and Williamsburg. Hoggard and Wilson will be joined by Atiba Taylor on sax and flute, Jack Byrnes on bass, plus Fred Ostro or Thomas Keyhoe on keyboards.

After 5 Fridays | Dance After Work: Tango

Join us as welcome back our longtime dance partners from the tango community for an evening of social dancing. Don't know how to tango? No problem! Just bring your dancing shoes and move into the music. Drink specials from Best Café start at 5:30 pm, and the dancing begins at 6 pm.

Join us for the last Summer Breeze of 2024! We'll celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a 45-minute dance lesson with The Salsa Guy, followed by Latin music and line dancing. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy beer, wine, and snacks available for purchase. In case of rain, join us in the Cochrane Atrium.

Marble Hall

VMFA welcomes sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan to the Marble Hall for an evening of classical Indian music. Shahid Parvez’s visit coincides with the exhibition Ragamalas: Picturing Music & Emotion, which fills two of VMFA’s South Asian Art galleries with paintings and music. The paintings come from ragamalas, sets of pictures that depict musical structures called ragas, personifying them as heroes and heroines in romantic or devotional settings. Join us while this world-renowned virtuoso of the sitar takes us deeper into the music that has informed this unique Indian visual art form.
