Each of the two figures supporting this stool holds a mask in front of its face, suggesting that the stool once belonged either to a chief or to a person who governed the use of masks. A hole in the center of the base made it possible to display the stool on top of a pole, as a sign of the owner’s status, when it was not being used at a seat.
