Looking to Learn: Ten Times Two
Use this activity to help learners slow down and make careful, detail-oriented observations. By encouraging them to push beyond what is noticeable at first glance, this activity promotes discovery and enriches inquiry-based discussions.
Ten Times Two
Before sharing any object information with students, ask them to do the following:
Look at the image or object quietly for at least 30 seconds. Let your eyes wander.
List 10 words or phrases about any aspect of the artwork.
Look at the image again, and try to add at least 10 more words or phrases to your list.
Students can work as a class, in small groups, or individually. The resulting lists can be shared in whatever way works best for your students.
The students’ observational lists can be supported by object information in order to deepen understanding.
