With Dr. Jennifer Thompson, The Gloria and Jack Drosdick Curator of European Painting & Sculpture & Curator of the John G. Johnson Collection, Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Claude Monet once advised a young artist to “paint . . . just as it looks to you,” yet he and his fellow Impressionists did more than simply observe and record the world around them—they carefully selected points of view, materials, and graphic tools such as cropping or unexpected perspectives. Dr. Jennifer Thompson will explore the ways in which the Impressionists draw our attention to the sensations of the moment and to their distinctive vision of the world.
