Who was Tjeby?
Though not much is known about Tjeby, curators, scholars, and conservators have determined that he was a nobleman and government official. In Ancient Egypt, noblemen were below only the pharaoh in terms of social status. They lived lives of luxury, usually holding government posts; more powerful or influential noblemen presided over the nomes (administrative districts) of ancient Egypt. Most noblemen wore headdresses to signify their social standing, along with jewelry for ornamentation.

Analysis of a CT-scan of Tjeby’s mummy indicate that he was somewhere between his late twenties to late thirties when he passed away. Originally buried at a site known as Sheikh Farag in upper Egypt, Tjeby was found in 1923 in the same tomb as another mummy that might have been his father.
