Floris at VMFA

Now Open on Saturday!

Floris invites you to immerse yourself in a culturally enriching tearoom experience at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Robins Sculpture Garden, Floris is a community gathering space located in VMFA’s Pauley Center.

Floris’s robust rotating menu, steeped in inspirations from VMFA’s collections as well as various tea-centric regions, features globally inspired dishes, freshly baked breads, and curated Virginia teas. Take a mid-day escape and indulge in delightful pleasures for the palate, including expertly crafted blends from guest tea makers. Chef Chainey Kuykendall’s use of fresh ingredients from local vendors and importers further enhances Floris’s celebration of cultures and community.

Reservations are strongly encouraged, as seating is limited, and can be made on OpenTable.

Our Partners

Floris is proud to partner with local vendors and importers that include Dominion Tea in Purcellville, Virginia; Roots Tea Blends, a holistic, Richmond-based Black and Queer-owned tea and lifestyle brand; and Savory Blends Tea Company, a Black woman-owned business in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood. Floris also features a signature VMFA blend—an aromatic fusion of vanilla, floral, and smoky elements that symbolize Richmond’s industrial roots in food extracts, bakeries, and tobacco.

Transformed by Abode, a Richmond-based interior design firm, the parlor in VMFA’s Pauley Center now features a vibrant color palette that marries contemporary and historical aesthetics to create a fresh atmosphere. Local artisans have contributed their craft to nearly every decorative detail, from sconces to drapery, ensuring a truly unique and exceptional dining space. Art and tea lovers alike may also purchase a variety of tea accoutrements created by local makers.

Join us for a culinary journey through the South and experience the bounty of the summer harvest.  Executive Chef Chainey Kuykendall and Kitchen Manager Cable Bonney have created a menu inspired by the recipes and ethos of Virginia native and Southern culinary icon Edna Lewis.  We will be pairing delicious teas by Virginia-based companies Dominion Tea and Savory Blends Tea Co. with flavors and blends inspired by the tastes, aromas, and history of Virginia.

Debra Freeman, award-winning writer and producer and host of the VPM docuseries Finding Edna Lewis and the Setting the Table podcast, will be joining us to provide an introduction to Edna Lewis and her impact on Southern foodways.
