This program features contemporary sculptors who will demonstrate and discuss their creative processes as they create sculptures on the Sculptor Cart, a moveable demo cart in VMFA’s Atrium. The Sculptor Cart will also feature examples of sculpting tools as well as touchable samples of marble, bronze, and plaster—the three main materials Rodin used in his studio.
Rick Delano

Rick Delano is a full-time sculptor, maintaining studios in Virginia and New Mexico. Working primarily in marble, but also in bronze, he has been trained both academically and through his work alongside Master carvers from diverse backgrounds. His work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions, where he has received national awards.
Julie Elkins

Julie Elkins is a local artist who combines art and narrative to create miniature environments out of porcelain. Inspired by her architectural and historical surroundings, her sculptures often include elements from local homes and buildings, abandoned places, and landscapes. As a working artist in Richmond, she teaches a wide variety of ceramics classes in the community in addition to maintaining a personal studio practice at home.

Lindsay Parnell

Lindsay Parnell is a performance and installation artist who currently lives and works in Richmond, VA. Her interactive installation projects involve physical and mental spaces that investigate the body’s relationship to objects while questioning how the body can act as a dynamic object in relationship to non-dynamic objects. While in Richmond, Parnell is studying Sculpture and Extended Media along with Art History and Dance and Choreography at the School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University.
Debbie Quick

Debbie Quick is the assistant chair of VCUarts Craft/Material Studies Department. Quick has an MFA alumni of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Craft/Material Studies Department with a BFA from Tyler School of Art. Her work has been included in numerous national exhibitions. Recently, she was at the Soaring Gardens residency in the Pennsylvania Blue Ridge Mountains.
Eva Rocha

Eva Rocha is a multimedia artist from Brazil. She is currently a graduate student in the Master of Fine Arts program at Virginia Commonwealth University with a focus in Kinetic Imaging. In 2015, Eva received the Theresa Pollak Award for Excellence in the Arts from Richmond Magazine and was selected for the People’s Choice Award at 1708 Gallery’s “inLight Richmond”, a juried annual light-based art festival which took place at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Her most recent works include sculptures and video performances in large-scale installations.

Chris White

Christopher David White is an American artist currently living and working in Richmond, Virginia. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Indiana University in 2012 and his Masters of Fine Arts in Clay from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. He was the recipient of the Center of Craft, Creativity and Design: Windgate Fellowship in 2012, and later was awarded ‘Most Environmentally Conscious’ at InLight 2014, juried by Denise Markonish. His work has been shown both nationally and internationally, and is held within numerous private collections. His sculptural works are handmade predominantly from clay and rendered with acute attention to detail, often resembling decaying pieces of wood, rusted metal, and other objects in various stages of deterioration. These works explore the relationship between humanity and nature and humans’ apperception of their environment.
