VMFA continues support of Virginia artists with $162,000

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ Fellowship Program continues its 76-year tradition supporting Virginia’s art community by giving grants to students and professional artists. With this year’s awards, fellowship grants will reach nearly $5.5 million with more than 1,275 awards to Virginia artists since the program’s inception in 1940. VMFA awarded 27 fellowships to Virginia art students and professional artists in 2016-17 for a total of $162,000.

VMFA completes $1.2M challenge grant to support digital and educational initiatives

VMFA recently completed a challenge grant in excess of $1.2M to benefit ARTshare, the museum’s digital technology and education initiative. The initial goal from the the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation was $600,000. The funds will directly support capital projects necessary to sustain VMFA as a 21st-century museum, including the development of new educational content and platforms.

VMFA announces Dominion Jazz Café

VMFA’s Thursday night performance program has a new name and sponsor. Now known as the Dominion Jazz Café, the free weekly event will continue to showcase performances by musicians representing all facets of the jazz genre.

Inlight 2015 extended for two nights

1708 Gallery and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts are pleased to announce that InLight 2015 has been extended for a second night on VMFA’s grounds. The free event will be held on Friday, November 13 from 7 p.m. until midnight and Saturday, November 14 from 7 until 10 p.m. The museum will have extended hours during the event.

ARTrageous meets the City of Light

VMFA’s signature biennial fundraising event will be inspired by the recent exhibition Van Gogh, Manet, and Matisse: The Art of the Flower and the upcoming Rodin: Evolution of a Genius to create an evening filled with dancing, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres on September 12. The theme is Fête des Artistes to evoke the nightlife of Paris.

Fellowship Recipients’ Exhibitions Go Statewide

Since 2009, VMFA has displayed the work of Visual Arts Fellowship recipients on the museum’s campus, as well as at Richmond International Airport. In recognition of the 75th anniversary of the VMFA Fellowship program this year, VMFA is expanding the exposure of this artwork across the Commonwealth with the opening of an exhibition at The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Va.
