Studio Art Teaching Proposals for the VMFA Studio School (audience 16 years and older)

Professional artists with adult studio art teaching experience interested in proposing a workshop not currently offered at the Studio School are encouraged to email a descriptive cover letter, resume, 10 images of your artwork or website address, and a workshop description. All proposals will be considered. Please familiarize yourself with the current Studio School offerings before you submit your proposal. Course offerings are set at least six months in advance of each semester.

Proposals can be sent to Mary Holland, Director of the Studio School: mary.holland@vmfa.museum.

Art History Class Proposals

The primary goal of Art History Classes is to provide adult audiences with the opportunity to investigate the history of art through dynamic and interactive lectures, gallery talks, and discussion. All Art History Classes are evaluated by participants at the end of the course through a written evaluation form designed to gauge the instructor’s teaching skills as well as the class format.

Adults with higher education teaching experience and a Masters degree in Art History or a related field are encouraged to submit proposals for a two-, four- or six- eight week lecture class. Courses should relate to VMFA collections or special exhibitions, be taught with PowerPoint, and include gallery visits as well as interactive components.

Please send a cover letter, résumé, two references, course description, and proposed syllabus to:
