On Friday, July 14, 2023, Mel Edwards and his daughter, Ana Edwards, a public historian, activist, and educator in Richmond joined us for a conversation. Named for his daughter in 1970, Corner for Ana is a key the sculpture in VMFA’s permanent collection related to prints the artist made at Communications Village. Founded by Benjamin Wigfall in 1973, Communications Village was a unique space where leading artists of the era engaged the local community and mentored youth while making innovative art. The conversation will be moderated by Sarah Eckhardt, co-curator of the exhibition, Benjamin Wigfall and Communications Village, as they discuss the intersection of art and community modeled in the past and continuing in our own city now.
