Portrait Painting in Oil

Request Program

In this course, participants will start by identifying the simple shapes and color that compose a well-designed portrait. During the demonstration on developing expression through form, color and line, students will see that a portrait is much more than recording proportions. Students will be guided to create a portrait that is an expression of the artist and the subject. It is recommended that students bring a large photo to work from that is at least 8×10. Photos taken in natural light with clear contrast is suggested. The class can be taught with a live model if the statewide partner wishes to provide it.
