(Education Support Specialist II, #00042)
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide programmatic and administrative support to the Education department. Reporting to the Chief Educator, this position will be responsible for primary management of the department’s general purchasing needs and budget maintenance. The program assistant will prepare documents and reports, coordinate contracts and purchasing requests, collect and maintain statistical and survey data, oversee office supplies and the operation of office equipment; pick up and distribute mail and perform education and arts based research as assigned. Additionally, this position acts as principal contact for general phone, email and in-person inquiries and coordinates archiving and storage needs for the department. Occasional weekend or evening work is required to assist with departmental events and programs, including material and content preparation and logistical support.
Qualifications: The selected candidate will have experience handling multiple tasks in a busy environment. He/she will demonstrate the ability to take initiative, use good judgment and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, artists, schools, and the general public to promote the philosophy and goals of the Education Department and VMFA as a whole. Additionally, he/she will have excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines with attention to detail. The selected candidate will also be technically savvy with Microsoft Office (Sharepoint, Outlook, Excel, Access and Word), and have familiarity with WordPress and social media platforms. Knowledge and experience with eVA (the State of Virginia procurement system) is a plus. Some experience working in an art museum, academic, state, or non-profit organization is helpful as is experience in teaching or performing administrative roles within public and/or private education A security background check will be required.
