The Special Events department at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is in search of individuals willing to maintain the museum’s objective to ensure customer satisfaction. Applications are now being accepted for the Banquet Server Position.
All applicants must have some experience in customer service or waiting tables. Food, wine, and beer knowledge is ideal. Servers are expected to stand in place and walk for extended periods of time while focusing on their tasks and obligations to the guests. Other physical demands of the job may include bending, climbing stairs and carrying trays and other items weighing 15-40 pounds. Good communication and efficiency is expected.
Specific job duties of a Banquet Server at the VMFA include, but are not limited to:
• Accommodating guests during a function, while circulating the room and staying involved
• Anticipating the needs of guests and responding politely to their requests
• Ensuring satisfaction by checking with guests to guarantee a pleasant dining experience and taking action to correct any problems that arise
• Serving food and/or beverages to guests and preparing or serving specialty dishes at tables as required
• Assisting fellow employees wherever necessary to maintain a positive work environment
• Setting up and breaking down of specified event space to meet function specifications
• Checking guests’ IDs to ensure that they meet the minimum age requirements to consume alcoholic beverages
• Being prompt and punctual to scheduled shifts
Banquet Servers should expect to work a varying amount of shifts, between 15 -25 hours/week. Number of shifts per week cannot be guaranteed, and may increase or decrease during busy or slow seasons.
The starting hourly wage for this position is $12/hr.
