Two white nephrite plaques decorate the lid of this engraved and gilded box. Each is inlaid with a flowering plant in dark green nephrite, into which is set a single ruby. Gold-wire inlays accentuate the floral motifs. The extensive use of large, carved hard-stone inlays, rather than small gemstones, to create sumptuous patterns distinguishes this object from many Indian jades.
