Rendered in remarkable brushwork and light colors, Kong Xuan’s scroll depicts chrysanthemums and pine branches in autumn. Born in Qufu, Shandong Province, Kong Xuan spent most of his life in Shanghai. His art, characterized by a painterly style and effects of light and shadow, engenders an immediate appeal with its decorative beauty, symbolizing harmony between nature and mankind.
