Interns in Advancement Services and Development contribute to its day-to-day success, as well as implement a series of special projects in collaboration with other interns, volunteers, and staff members. Interns will learn through hands-on experiences, tools, processes, and ongoing strategies how Advancement/Development and Membership Offices function.
Along with supporting and learning about daily activities, intern responsibilities may include performing data entry functions in Raiser’s Edge database; creating and modifying documents using Microsoft Office software; assisting with general administrative functions; researching, compiling, and analyzing data for donor and prospect management as well as fundraising trends as needed; and assisting in writing instructions, procedures, guides, and manuals to describe development and fundraising activities. Other projects and assignments may arise depending upon upcoming exhibits and programs.
Applicants should have some experience and/or a genuine interest in the development field and VMFA. They should also have a working knowledge of software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher; have a command of proper business English, punctuation, spelling, and grammatical usage; and have positive customer service skills for contact with the public in person, on the phone, and in written communications. A minimum of 10 hours per week is expected over the course of the summer, fall, or spring semesters. No stipends are provided.
