Job Duties
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) seeks an energetic and self-motivated Videographer to produce, capture, and edit high-quality, creative video packages. Under the general supervision of the Director of Imaging Resources, the Videographer is responsible for working independently and collaboratively with other museum professionals to identify visual opportunities that best communicate the story of VMFA; increase visibility and awareness of VMFA programs; enhance revenue-generating programs and services; and encourage a greater understanding of the museum’s mission.
This is a salaried, non-exempt position offering $54,000 annually and Commonwealth of Virginia employee benefits, such as 12 paid holidays, healthcare and more. The Videographer will:
Produce, capture, and edit high-quality, creative video packages.
Work independently and collaboratively with other museum professionals to identify visual opportunities that best communicate the story of VMFA.
Increase visibility and awareness of VMFA programs.
Enhance revenue-generating programs and services.
Encourage a greater understanding of the museum’s mission.
Manage all phases of video production, from conceptualization and pre-production to shooting and post-production.
Handle project coordination.
Operate and maintain equipment.
Work some evening, holiday, and weekend hours as required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Ability to orchestrate strong and compelling narratives through sophisticated video production and creative storytelling.
A strong sense of design and an ability to create compelling and visually interesting compositions.
Expertise in operating video cameras, D-SLRs, and various types of lighting and sound recording equipment.
Significant experience with studio and field-based video production.
Significant experience with sound mixing and editing, various non-linear editing software packages, and motion graphics.
Exceptional project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to be extremely organized and detail-oriented; able to problem-solve; and work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to organize and complete projects on time with attention to detail from conception to completion.
Ability to work overtime, evening, holiday, or weekend hours as required.
Significant proven skill in marketing, Media Production, Communications and Media, Film and Video Production or similar preferred.
Experience working in a corporate or cultural heritage video production environment also preferred.
The selected candidate must pass a security background check.
