Resting on a tall, tapering pedestal, this bowl exemplifies early Korean funerary stoneware. Similar examples with footed bases and high pedestals have been excavated from tombs in southern Korea, suggesting that this type of stoneware was used for holding food presented to ancestors or the deceased during ceremonial practices.
