Job Duties

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a dedicated and security minded leader to join our team as the Manager of SCOP Operations

The Manager of SCOP Operations will contribute to this objective through the efficient and attentive management of Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) Officers and Watch Commanders. They will also be expected to fulfill any other duties deemed necessary by the Deputy Chief/Assistant Director of Security Services and/or Chief/Director of Security Services.

Responsibilities
• Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Security Services, fostering a collaborative partnership to elevate departmental effectiveness.
• Leads and mentors Watch Commanders and SCOP Officers, cultivating a high-performing security team.
• Oversees the strategic success and operational efficiency of the SCOP program, ensuring it delivers optimal security outcomes.
• Provides comprehensive support to the hiring process, streamlining onboarding for new security personnel and fostering a seamless integration.
• Collaborates in the development and modification of departmental policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with best practices and evolving security needs.
• Demonstrates initiative and independence, effectively managing workload and prioritizing tasks.
• Collaborates seamlessly with the Security Leadership Team, fostering a cohesive approach to security management.
• Provides meticulous documentation of activities to maintain clear communication and SCOP records.
• Engages in administrative processes including budget planning, meeting coordination, and intra-/extra-departmental communications, ensuring smooth departmental operation.
• Maintains on-call availability to address critical or emergent security situations, demonstrating dedication to the organization’s safety and security.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong leadership and managerial skills; ability to build a connected and mission-oriented team. Embraces and understands diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Exceptional communication skills, including strong ability to read, write and comprehend directions and instructions; add, subtract and figure percentages; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Very strong computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, security databases, and Microsoft OneDrive, or equivalent.

Ability to wear a uniform, maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance.

Ability to function efficiently, professionally and graciously in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment providing excellent leadership and crisis response and ability to exercise mature, independent judgment.

Demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills, including preparing complete and effective reports, developing SOPs, maintaining complete documentation in a well-organized filing system, leading meetings and giving presentations, and effectively disseminating information to staff or stakeholders.

Strong customer service skills; understanding and support of the VMFA mission.

Complete and receive Certification annually through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Security Threat Assessment.

Complete and receive Certification through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in Bloodborne Pathogens and other relevant topics.

Complete and maintain registration as an armed Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) Officer through the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).

Specified training and Certifications must be obtained within first twelve (12) months of hire date.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Education or work experience with knowledge, skills, and abilities specified.
• Demonstrated experience as an effective leader/manager.
• Law enforcement background with a strong understanding of criminal law and procedures.

Additional Considerations

Preferred: BA in law enforcement, criminal justice, private security, or equivalent experience including military experience.

Preferred: CPR/AED/First Aid Certified, Registered Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) Officer through the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
