Individual warriors often dedicated miniature versions of armor in thanksgiving for their survival (center). This cuirass recalls the dedication of the enemy’s armor as a tropaeum (a battlefield monument made of the enemy’s arms and armor, see bottom center) by a victorious general at the site of a victory. In art, dejected prisoners were often shown at the foot of such tropaea (bottom right). Each of these coins includes an image of Nike, the winged personification of Victory.
