A bird perches on a polished lapis lazuli stone in this fanciful brooch mounting. This popular design has been continually produced and recomposed with different types of semiprecious stones in strong colors, including aquamarine, citrine, peridot, and tourmaline. Perhaps its most glamorous interpretation appeared thirty years after its introduction, in Schlumberger’s posthumous retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris where it surmounted the iconic Tiffany Diamond.
