Painted in delicate brushwork and vibrant colors, this screen illustrates seasonal flowers, ranging from peach blossoms to lotuses, camellias, and chrysanthemums, surrounded by birds such as magpies, mandarin ducks, peacocks, and pheasants. The lively garden scene reveals the artist’s close observation of nature and conveys a symbolic message of renewal and delight. In the 19th century, this type of botanical screen was placed behind a low desk to decorate women’s living quarters.
