Julius Meier-Graefe’s gallery, La Maison Moderne, opened in 1899 and placed itself at the forefront of the French Art Nouveau movement. The salon sold works by master craftsmen and emerging artists, including the Italian-born illustrator and designer Manuel Orazi. In this advertisement for the gallery, Orazi depicted a fashionable woman wearing jewelry that he designed. Behind her, a case displays a selection of decorative objects by La Maison Moderne’s various artists.
