This view illustrates the most popular features of the Kameido Tenjin Shrine in Tokyo: the arched “Drum Bridge” and the dangling wisteria. According to Japanese legend, one hundred vines, which were planted over three hundred years ago, have grown to occupy fifteen large trellises. The purple flowers bloom in late April and early May, at which time locals celebrate the Fuji Matsuri (Wisteria Festival).
