Alphonse Mucha, Czech, active in France, 1860 - 1939 (Artist)
F. Champenois Imprimeur-Éditeur, French, Paris, active 1875 - 1939 (Artist)
Like other Art Nouveau artists, Mucha was most inspired by nature, which is evident in his lavish use of flowers and foliage. The watercolor panels for Rose and Iris, in Les Fleurs series (73.11.1 and 73.11.2), were initially displayed at Mucha’s Salon des Cent exhibition, which opened in Paris in June 1897, but the entire series only became available as a set to the public in 1898. These lithographs are among the most successful panels created by Mucha.
