Figures from an Altarpiece: St. John the Baptist, the Virgin and Child, and St. Gregory (Primary Title)
Unknown (Artist)
Gothic church interiors frequently were filled with a number of altarpieces (retables) of differing character and size: sometimes as many as fifty altars existed in a single building. These three wooden sculptures originally stood within niches in a shallow box that had a painted inscription on its side stating that the altar it served was dedicated in 1502. This architectural framework is in need of conservation.
