Choi Bok-hee 최복희 崔福姬, Korean, 1930 - 2007 (Artist)
Contemporary textile artist Choi Bok-hee created this jacket in the traditional Korean style for children. It features the dragon design on the front, the back, and over the shoulders, as well as repeating gold characters symbolizing good fortune and longevity. These patterns were first carved into a wooden mold, stamped onto the fabric with glue, and then sprinkled over with gold. The lining the collar and sleeves is made of a white fabric that would be regularly replaced when soiled.
Modern period (1910-present)
福 (bok, happiness), 寿 (su, longevity) stamped in gold
