Based in Paris around 1900, Georges de Feure was an artist, designer, and interior decorator. He designed interiors for Siegfried Bing's pavilion at the World's Fair in Paris in 1900, including the textiles, carpets, glassware, and furniture for a boudoir. The textiles represented the triumph of French Art Nouveau pattern design. Large in scale and exuberant in mood, these floral motifs were ostentatious and exotic.

This rare panel was made for Bing's gallery in Paris by Scheurer, Lauth et Cie in Alsace, France. It is the same pattern as a textile that was on view at the Paris World's Fair in 1900 and typifys De Feure's mastery of line, color, and patterns. Because the textile was carefully preserved for decades in the archives at Scheurer, Lauth et Cie, it is in especially excellent condition.
