Using an inverse collage method to create shapes, colors, and textures, Kim Chun-ok depicts a pond filled with lotus flowers at different stages of development. In Buddhism, the lotus flower symbolizes purity and simplicity. Here the artist parallels the flower’s complexities with the intricacies of human relationships by placing them amid other natural elements. A native of Daegu, South Korea, Kim studied painting at Seoul National University and Sejong University. She has participated in exhibitions throughout Asia and Europe, and has taught at Inha University in Incheon.
