Veleko represents a generation of artists that matured in post-apartheid South Africa. Her signature series, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, considers the role of fashion in the construction of identity and highlights the freedom and expressiveness of youth in her Johannesburg. The confidence and playfulness of her subjects project her own desire to define a new era in South African art.
